AboutYou & Five-O& BJ
To help all Huemans get home after police encounters
That is real community policing. That's how We All Get Home.
You & Five-O, LLC was created in 2015. The founder Beverly “BJ” Council started out with what she knew about policing and what she thought the community needed to hear in order to get home safely after police interactions. However, after hearing and listening to over three thousand community members, primarily African-Americans, what she heard repeatedly was the community telling her what they needed. Which was help in understanding law enforcement and how to navigate with that knowledge.
BJ didn’t hear thousands of different concerns from the community about policing, she heard the same FIVE. So, after eleven years of her listening to their experiences, voices and stories, the community gave her their Top Five concerns. She heard them and You & Five-O, LLC now teaches based on those concerns. That is real community policing. That’s how We All Get Home.

In 1981 joined Durham Public Safety, back then you were trained as an officer and a fire fighter. When they went back to separate police and fire departments she chose to pursue the career of law enforcement.
She started You & Five-O, LLC (2015) in response to the rise of deaths that were occurring during police interactions. She understood the importance of asking and most importantly hearing the community about how they want to be served by law enforcement. She wants to ensure that law enforcement maintains its honor of serving and protecting those in need. She’s proud to have been a member of the policing industry and understands the impact of a few can have on an entire industry. Due to the history of policing in Black and marginalized community’s an encounter can either build trust or destroy it. She’s qualified because she policed, she led police and has spent eleven years listening to the community being policed.
As a Black female she offers a unique view from both sides: she understands the police perspective while also being aware of the systemic issues and generational trauma that affect the Black and Brown communities.
You & Five-O’s primary goal is that All Huemans Go Home after police encounter.
